Beta Reader-Writer Match Up

I was going to blog about how I found my current beta readers today, but [info]tinachristopher  had a genuis suggestion: let’s have a one-day beta reader hunt  match up here on my live journal!
http://www.devonmonk.livejournal.com/

I’m opening my blog today to any reader or writer who is looking for a critique partner or reader who wants to be a beta reader.  You don't need special training.  You don't need to be published.

Come on in, have some punch, try the cheese cubes with the frilly toothpicks.  Mix.  Mingle.  Talk about who you are and what you're looking for.

In the comments you can:

1. Tell us if you’re a reader or writer

2. Tell us what you like to read or what you are writing

3. Tell us your favorite movies, books, author, or a little about yourself.

4. Do not tell us derogatory comments about specific writers–you never know who’s going to stop by.

5. If you find someone you’d like to test run as a critique partner or beta reader, exchange email addresses in comments.

6. If you don’t want your email public, but still want to contact someone in private, email me at devon_monkATyahooDOTcom with your email address.  If you email me with a contact address, you are giving me permission to offer your address to anyone who asks me for it for today only.  (I expect only readers and writers will ask for emails, but there’s always the chance I won’t catch a sneaky spammer.)  I will delete all emails (sent to me in private on yahoo) at the stroke of midnight PST, and share them no more.

7. Have fun, play fair, be nice, and most of all, good luck!

Let the party begin!

Edit to add: Remember, after you post about what you're looking for, you can read through the comments and reply to anyone who you think might be a good match for you.  Don't be a wallflower!  These don't have to be long-term commitments-- just test runs to see if anyone "clicks".

Re-edit to add:  I'll leave the comments up here on the Live Journal for at least a couple weeks.  I will, however, delete personal emails sent to me via yahoo.  Don't want y'all to think I'm using them for nefarious deeds.  :o)

BETA READER/WRITER
Hi :)
My name is Rob Charron. I am a voracious reader since I was three. I am also a writer since I was four. I am as yet unpublished as I put my writing on hold for 20 years with for my job and family. Now I am writing again. (I wrote during this period but not with intensity of purpose, more a dabbling or just putting ideas down)
:)
I have three children, Jenna 16, Chelsea 14, and Jonathon 12, and they are miracles in my life. I won the lottery with a jackpot of 4.3 million dollars but lost the ticket because I was moving the day before the draw. I reconcile this with my children for they most likely wouldn't have been born when they were born & thus would be other children - and I wouldn't trade a one of them for all the money in the world.
:)
I read everything - literally. If I have nothing to read I read the labels on products or the billboards or signs, etc. I prefer Fantasy & SF though. Urban Fantasy is great! I have too many favorite authors to name them all.
:)
Oh, and I took Book & Magazine Publishing in University.
That's my mini-blog. :)

Good morning everybody!

I have been a voracious reader since I was a little girl and when I discovered Johanna Lindsey and Katherine E. Woodiwiss in my early teens I was hooked on Romance. Yes, I'm not afraid to say it, I need happy endings in my books. No matter how many "men with the gun" are sent in my the author, at the end I need them to connect (or if it's a series I need the hope that they will connect at some point in the future).

Ok, enough babbling, I'm a writer as well as a reader and am looking for a BR or three:D.
My current WIP (my first full length novel ca. 98,000 words) is called Finding Darkness and is a futuristic romantic (well, at least that's the plan) suspense with a bit of paranormal thrown in (hm, I may have to work on the description a little). The goal is for FD to appeal to readers of J.D. Robb and Jayne Ann Krentz's Arcane Society (obviously after a lot more work has been done).

Here is the first draft of my blurb

As a young girl psychic Alexandra McNamara survived her worst nightmare. She subsequently turned her back on the world to concentrate on establishing her animal sanctuary and trying to escape her memories. When her gift with animals pulls her into a homicide investigation she becomes entangled in a killer’s sick and twisted game which may not only threaten her sanity but also her life.
From the moment he met her Agent Ben Chandler is intrigued by sassy sexy Alex and when it becomes clear that she may be the killer’s ultimate goal he swears he will do anything to protect her. But will it be enough?

I have also worked as a Children's bookseller for the last eight years so if you'd like some feedback on a kid's book I'm happy to read.

My email address is tina.christopher7@googlemail.com.

I look forward to chatting with you.

I'm May, and I'm a writer.

I'll read pretty much anything, but I'm not fond of historicals. That said, I'm not really in the market for another beta/CP unless you write fantasy. I'm particularly not interested if you write romance because both my current CPs, < lj user = "nadia_lee" > and < lj user = "joelysue" >, write romance and I'm looking for somebody with a different perspective.

At the moment, I'm concurrently plotting two WIPs, one's pretty much UF and the other is futuristic fantasy on a fairly epic scale. I have a chunk of the latter that I can send out as a tester.

I am from Singapore, but I am currently studying economics at the University of Manchester.

If you'd like to email me, use my LJ ID but @gmail.com

I may not reply for a few days, because I'm flying back to Singapore on Sunday.

Reader/Writer
I'd love to find a beta reader and be a beta reader for someone who's near the same stage in their writing career as I am.

I'm waiting to hear back from two agents who have fulls of my second completed novel, a vamp urban fantasy. I'm currently working on a fae book - about 20k until the end. When I'm finished with this book (and if neither it nor the vamp book gets picked up by an agent/editor *sob*), I intend to work on a futuristic romance (I'm a huge fan of Linnea Sinclair).

I've recently started reading a lot of historical romance. I have no intention to write that genre, but wouldn't mind beta-ing in it.

All my books have some level of romance in them. I'd like to be critique partners (is that the correct term?) with anyone who writes romantic SF and/or urban fantasy. If you want to do a trial run and exchange a few chapters to see if we can help each other out, I'm game.

You can e-mail me at s k williams AT verizon DOT net (no spaces).

Thanks!
Sandy

Writer who would like to start as a reader
1. Tell us if you’re a reader or writer

I am an aspiring writer who will eventually need a beta reader or two but am not at that stage yet ... however, I would love to help out any other authors or aspiring authors and volunteer as a beta reader.

2. Tell us what you like to read or what you are writing

I read and write mostly urban fantasy but have been known to forage into the worlds of sci-fi, romance, and horror.

3. Tell us your favorite movies, books, author, or a little about yourself.

The favourites question is always a tough one. I tend to stick more to genres than than specifics because there is so many greats out there with new ones hitting the market every day I don't want to leave anyone out. I love action. I am an action junkie whether it be movies, books, TV, whatever. I also love characters that are 'real' even though their worlds, powers, etc. may be surreal. I need character development and something that tugs at my emotions. Any author or movie or book that can do that has my vote!

On a more personal note I am married and my husband and I are expecting our first child in October. We also have three adorable rescue Beagles who are just as spoiled as any child will be :)

So drop me a line if you think I will be a good fit as your beta reader!

I'm a paranormal romance writer.

I like to read urban fantasy, paranormal romance, paranormal YA. I don't mind historical romance, but I cannot help you with research because I don't know enough myself.

My favorite movies are mostly SFF action, such as TERMINATOR 1 & 2, BLADE (1 & 3) or spy thrillers like BOURNE IDENTITY, BOURNE SUPREMACY, etc. I adore Jim Butcher's Dresden Files & Kresley Cole's IAD series & JKR's HARRY POTTER series.

FYI -- I rarely if ever line edit or correct people's grammar, etc. If you're looking for someone who's going to be your line editor or something, I'm probably not the right person. I usually give good feedback on plot, characters, etc. -- bigger picture items basically. And that's the kind of feedback I'm looking for as well.

You can find my contact info on my website http://www.nadialee.net/contact or find me on Twitter as NadiaLee.

Reader/Writer
My name is Lisa. I am both a reader and a writer. I love to both read and write urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and YA--as long as it has that paranormal twist.

My fav author...well there's no way to pick just one. I love ALL the deadline dames, Devon included :-), Karen Chance, Charlaine Harris, and Patricia Briggs.

So far I've completed two novels (getting polished for the perfect CP or beta reader I hope one of you could become). My current WIP is YA which is a bit of a stretch for me, but I decided to take the leap. And, though the contract isn't officially signed yet, I have received an offer for one of my short stories from an epublisher.

My email is angel28140@yahoo.com

Thanks for stopping by and Devon, great idea!

Im a paranormal romance and urban fantasy writer.
My name is Stella. And I write with my sister, though any beta or CP wont deal with Audra as she lives in Scotland, and is ahead of the US in time by 5 hours. So shes rarely online for play time.

That said, I both write and read paranormal romance and urban fantasy. I don't read or write YA (cant get into it, not really, though there are exceptions), and I wont work with a man looking to have his sex scenes critiqued, that's just flat out perverse and creepy. I love historical romance, but am useless when it comes to research and such.

Audra and I write short stories and novels, and right now the work we are looking for a CP/beta for are novels.

My favorite authors are: Poppy Z. Brite, Clive Barker,Frank Beddor, Kresley Cole and Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Audra and I are rather prolific, and are working now on a series we have out to a few agents, as well as another series that's out with a few editors. We have a reader beta, but I'm looking for a writer beta/CP that we can trust.

What we are looking for: a writer with a good grasp on paranormal romance and urban fantasy that understands both the industry and how to critique without being evil. We both have very thick skin, but being snarky for snarks sake isn't what we are looking for.

Please note: I'm not an editor. I won't fix any grammar or usage for you, but I do look for continuity, story structure, characters, plot and pacing. If you don't have a very good grasp on the English language (IE: every other word is misspelled or have incomplete sentences) please do no contact me, I just don't have the time to teach basic English.

That said, if your interested, please contact me at stella@stellaandaudra.com

Devon, thanks for the opportunity.

Reader & Writer
1. I'm a reader & writer
2. I like to read anything that captures my attention.
3. Some authors I like are Mark Danielewski, John Connolly, Hemingway, Charlaine Harris & the list goes on so I'll just stop. I'm a book junkie and an aspiring to get published author who's currently querying agents on a chick lit romance. I am currently writing a urban fantasy that I would love to get feedback on. In the movie relam, I love anything Guy Ritchie does and a good action.
4. I'm signing up here because I enjoy helping others and nurturing talent. It's one of the reasons my interns call me Mama Bear, but I also hope to find someone who actually be a crit partner for me as well.

I read fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal romance and sci-fi regularly and would be happy to read historicals and crime. Stories with a bit of the surreal are my favourites. I'd be happy to help with character and plot and I'd try my best at line edits and the like if that is what you need.

1. Tell us if you’re a reader or writer
I will need a good beta eventually as I am working on my urban fantasy novels (I have two that I bounce back and forth between). Have a long way to go yet though.

I'd like to offer my services as a beta.

2. Tell us what you like to read or what you are writing
I am an avid reader of urban fantasy, sci-fi and mysteries. I read some paranormal romance, but as a jaded, 'true love'll never happen to me so annoyed when it happens to others, even in fiction' curmudgeon, I am probably not a good person to read anything that is overly romantic.

3. Tell us your favorite movies, books, author, or a little about yourself.
Hmm, movies: Grosse Pointe Blank, Much Ado about Nothing (Branagh version) and Highlander are high on my list of favourites. As for books, I read so much… I grew up on Charles de Lint, Jo Clayton, Agatha Christie, and Madeline l'Engle. Currently reading and loving your stuff, Devon, and am also a huge fan of Tanya Huff, Kelley Armstrong, Rachel Caine, John Levitt, Anton Strout, and Patricia Briggs.

On the mystery side I am a fan of Beverly Connor, Carol O’Connell, Rick Riordan, Kathy Reichs, and Marcia Muller.

4. Not being derogatory, but I did want to mention that I have yet to read either the Harry Potter or the Twilight series. Apparently that comes as a surprise to a lot of people.

I am Canadian, so I do tend to write with the u’s (favourite vs. favorite), but I am able to edit in American ;) My writing pet peeves are incorrect spelling, bouncing verb tenses and improper wording (i.e. someone using scents when they mean sense).

I hope I can be the beta reader of someone’s dreams… and that they will also be willing to let me bounce ideas, and the occasional paragraph, off them.

Reader/writer
*finds where Devon hid the dark chocolate fountain with fruit"

Ahem! My name is Laura Ware, and I am a writer. I read almost anything except erotica - in fact, my pile of things to read is so huge I'm barring myself from the library until I catch up!

I write short stories and novels. My short stories tend to be mainstream, mystery, fantasy, a little sf (though sf is not my strong suit as a writer). I've written 4 1/2 novels (working on one now). The first 2 were great practice . The others are inspirational fiction. I'm getting ready to do a major push on one, getting the second ready for a beta reader (maybe one of you?), and working on the third as we speak.

I've had 2 short stories published. One for a Star Trek anthology (Strange New Worlds 10) and the other a fantasy.

I'd love a beta who will be able to give me their thoughts. I would love to beta for someone but I will admit I have some time issues at the moment. If you are interested in me being a reader for you, we can talk about it. :-)

Tina, thanks for the great idea! And Devon, thanks for hosting this!

Dark crime/psychological horror writer/reader
A writer friend left his email with me on my yahoo account.

He has finished a novel and is looking for a reader or writer with fresh eyes (and a high tolerance for very dark stuff) for his dark/twisted crime novel.

He would love to read some squicky, ugly, dark crime or psychological horror this summer.

I can vouch for him. He's a great guy, crit partner, & writer who writes terrific really dark stuff.

Contact me, Devon, at devon_monk AT yahoo DOT com if you'd like to hook up with him!

I'm looking for a CP. I write Fantasy and Urban Fantasy novels. I just started writing UF in 2006, and that is mostly what I'm writing right now, though I have ideas/plans for future Fantasy stories. I have three professional sells (short fiction/Heroic Fantasy).

Best fit would be someone who also reads/writes Fantasy and Urban Fantasy.

Favorite movies? Star Wars, Underworld and Bourne series. Van Helsing. Transformers. Almost anything with Bruce Willis in it, so ACTION.

Mostly, I read Fantasy. Love the old Conan books by Offiut and de Camp. Medieval fantasy, mostly. David Weber's SF books are great, too. I like Kim Harrison's Hollows series, Jim Butcher's Dresden series, among others.

My current WIP - Black Heart:

Inspired by the movie Underworld, and my own dark and erotic thoughts on what vampires are really all about, I wrote this story about a gun-slinging undead vampire hunter living in the world of vampires while out to stake the unholy monsters that Changed her forever. The story is in Sable Hart's First Person POV.

Sable Hart is an M&M chomping church secretary and vampire hunter when blood-thirsty euro-vamps invade Dallas with the intention of creating a vampire ruled city and sanctuary for the undead. Sable and her vampire hunting boyfriend stake an ancient Russian vampire's undead girlfriend, so he decides Sable will replace her. She fights the good fight, but is Changed. Well that really pissed her off. Now undead, with all the dark powers, and even darker needs and urges of the vampires, Sable Hart becomes Black Heart. With flashing swords, silver bullets and dark determination Sable stalks, torments and kills her deadly foes.

While hunting vampires, Sable must deal with an ex-boyfriend trying to stake her and her minister parents who are horrified to find their daughter an undead "abomination," all while she is befriended and helped by a sexy, undead pimp who looks like Jesus on steroids.

This is most definitely an Urban Fantasy, and not a paranormal romance. Be warned, graphic sex and violence. Think Anita Blake crossed with Selene of Underworld.

1. I'm both an avid reader and a writer.

2. I pretty much write what I read, a little of anything but predominately urban fantasy (both YA and adult). Any story I write will have a romantic plot thread, even if it's not the focus.

I am editing my first novel and drafting the second. The first novel is a YA about a girl with telepathy (and another, less controlled power) who goes to a supernatural boarding school.
The second is an adult UF about a paranormal detective agency.

Like a lot of urban fantasy, my stories tend to be a mix of romance, mystery, and the paranormal all in a contemporary setting.

3. My favorite movies and books would take forever. Lots of urban fantasy and fantasy. Not as much sci-fi. A little romance and a little mystery.

I seem to be drawn to stories with a romance where the two characters start out disliking each other. Perhaps Pride and Prejudice has ruined me for life. ;) I love stories with rich world building, from Jacqueline Carey to Ilona Andrews. Complex characters with strong motivations and a moral compass squarely in the shades of grey will pretty much always win me over. The first season of Veronica Mars was probably my favorite season of television ever. I like things that are a little bit dark with a twisted sense of humor. All of these are things I try to incorporate into my own writing.

I have two non-writer betas (yay for friends and family who are avid readers) and one crit partner already who's most recent novel I'm going to be critting as soon as I finish the last 50 pages or so of this edit of my first novel. I won't be able to get to critting any full novels until that's done, but I imagine I'll have that back to her sometime next week.

If anyone's interested in swapping some sample chapters to see if we're compatible send me an email, I can probably fit in the sample chapters this weekend. I'm more likely to be helpful in plot and characterization stuff than spelling or grammar. I'll still catch typos, but if that's primarily what you're looking for I'm not really your girl. I'm an atrocious speller, but between spell check and my boyfriend my drafts should be about average to fairly clean before my betas get it.

Devon, I ADORE you for this idea. SQUEEEEE!

1. I'm a writer, happy to be a reader. I've heard folks spin these lovely, mythical tales of their critique partners/beta readers, but haven't had much luck among my friends finding someone to fill the role.

What I want is someone willing to read more for story/character/plot holes and less for grammar/sentence structure. I'm willing to do either for somebody else -- I am pretty good at catching tyops and things. ;) Or asking "what if" questions about the story.

2. I read and write fantasy and scifi (though I'm not huge on military SF), short stories and novels. I've got a stack of shorts that need revision and I'm maybe 10K away from finishing my 2nd novel -- an urban fanatasy about glass monsters stalking the streets of a small town... and the glass artist who somehow has to save the world from the monsters. This is the quick back cover copy I wrote up.. (My first novel is not gonna see the light of day for a long time, but is about long haul trucker/smugglers in space.)

Oh and for what it's worth, I was a Writers of the Future winner in 2001. (Published in Volume 18.) I tend to downplay that -- despite it being a HUGE honor -- because I haven't done much since then.

3. My favorites change so frequently... some writers have my undying loyalty because they got me interested in genre stuff (like Anne McCaffrey) but I haven't reread them in ages because I'm afraid I'll be too critical now. I'm currently rereading the Amber books and reading Discworld for the first time. I'm also a squeeing fangirl for just about any writer I've met in person. ;)

Other stuff about me... I'm a dog momma, gamer (online and off), typical had-loads-of-part-time-jobs writer (so if you've got questions about working in radio, being a party clown, or caring for 65 cats, for example, I can help out.)

Devon, firstly, what an amazing thing you are doing - thanks very much!

I'm Liz - many of you know me. I am an avid reader and run www.myfavouritebooks.blogspot.com and I've wanted to be a writer since I could spell, age 4 or 5. I read a lot - I am not incredibly fond of romances but I find myself languishing over a few, you know, just to see how the other side does it. ;-) I read a lot of fantasy, urban fantasy and because of UF I get to read some ParaRom too. I also read action, adventure, thrillers, horror and everything else publishers send onto me. But my one true love is YA, in all its shapes and forms. Especially UF YA.

My own current WIP is geared towards readers 12+ and it concerns 14 year old Nicholas who has to run around the world, putting ancient artefacts together, in order to save his comatose archaeologist dad from dying, after he had a run in with a long forgotten djinn in the Western Sahara. It is a bit Indy Jones, it is a bit Tom Raidery, but with a genuine supernatural twist.

I am friends with kazdreamer, tinachristopher, skarrah and miladyinsanity and I feel very honoured to count them among my friends and confidantes. BUT! Here's the rub - I am looking for a beta reader who is not my friend. I know, go figure. I am conscious how my reading changes when I know a person personally and I am genuinely worried that it would be reflected in the reading of my current WIP.

I am keen to hear from someone who won't pull punches, who likes kids' books and who has an open mind. I want to find out, honestly, if Djinn is working. My concerns are numerous, check out my post on my LJ from a few days ago - black night of the soul doesn't begin to cover what I went through! So. There's me. I am far from done - it's sitting at around 28k at present but I am working towards a deadline of +- 80k for August 09. That is a LOT of writing, and I can do it. All I need is someone with a clear head, an honest reader, and someone who knows the genre.

Thanks for this opportunity!

Urban Fantasy writer
Since I don't have a LiveJournal account, my name is Andrea McElwain. I'm a writer, not published yet, but committed to getting there. I'm also a single parent with a full time job. I've always read more fantasy than anything else, and the last couple years I've been reading mostly urban fantasy. A few of my current favorite authors are Robin McKinley, Patricia Briggs, Ilona Andrews, and Margaret Ronald. I don't get to see a lot of movies these days: the ones I get from Netflix are usually kids movies or comedies, sometimes sci-fi and action. Right now I'm enjoying introducing my daughter to the original Star Trek series!

I describe the novel I'm working on as either urban fantasy or contemporary fantasy, depending on who I'm talking to. Plenty of magic, no vampires/shifters/monsters, not a lot of romance. (Not that there's anything wrong with vampires or monsters or romance. I enjoy them. Often together.) I'm working through some heavy plot revisions at the moment, but I'll be ready to send it out to beta readers soon. I'm hoping to start submitting to agents in a few months. I can handle line edits, what I need are the people who can point out all the issues you can't see when it's your own project. I appreciate polite but pulling no punches. I'm not interested in saving my ego, just making this the best book it can be.

I'm willing to reciprocate on critiques and support, of course, if you're a writer also. It would probably be best if you're familiar with the urban fantasy genre. If you'd like to give it a try, I'll send you a chapter or two, see what you think, and go from there. I can also send you a synopsis if want to check that out first. You can reach me at mevanwy at gmail dot com.

Thanks for the opportunity, Devon!

Re: Urban Fantasy writer
Hi Andrea.
I am a reader not a writer. With three best friends who are writers I have absolutely NO choice in the matter!:) (All of them are published).
I'm better with working on the "flow" finding plot holes or problems with continuity, characterization, or believability and with fact-checking. I'm not your beta gal for proofreading spelling and grammar errors.
If you'd like to send me a first chapter that would be a good place to start.
Good luck.

Hello! And thanks, Dame Devon, for this opportunity!

1. I'm a reader and a writer who started my "career" in middle school. After decades of detours and roadblocks (details unnecessary), I decided to get serious about my writing. Mortality has a way of doing that. :-)

2. I like to read mysteries, fantasies (including urban), thrillers, literature, plays, screenplays, biographies, etc. I love doing research, perhaps too much so.

I've written two paranormal novels currently under revision. The first (and the one I'm currently concentrating on) is about a half-human angel of death who, stripped of her powers and demoted to earth, determines to solve the murders of her best friend and other angels before she becomes the killer's next victim.

The other novel is about a vampire who hunts the elusive marquis who destroyed her life during the French Revolution.

3. I like silent and foreign films. Favorites include Santa Sangre, The Double Life of Veronique, Ashes and Diamonds, and Sunset Boulevard. Favorite authors: Camus, Kafka, Dostoevsky, Stephen King, Joe Hill, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Angela Knight, Kathryn Reiss, Alice Hoffman, Madeleine L'engle, etc.

4. No problem.

5. While I have beta readers, I wouldn't mind new perspectives. (And sometimes the aforementioned aren't always available.) I also write plays and screenplays, so if you're familiar with script writing, I'd like to hear from you, too. My email is shadowcatgirl at yahoo.com

Happy Writing!

I'm at work and won't have time to read through the other comments until this evening, but HI!

I'm Jessica Tudor. I write fantasy, particularly traditional or historical; I've also done urban/contemporary, though I lean toward the old-fashioned stuff. I have a short story coming out in an anthology from Drollerie Press soon called "The Blood Myth" about witches. I had a few agents interested in my last novel and I'm currently working on a steampunk-esque retelling of the American Revolution.

I love reading fantasy, fantasy romance, historical, mystery, and. . . Southern women's fiction. My favorite authors are Lilith Saintcrow, Jeri Smith-Ready, Joshilyn Jackson, Lynn Viehl, Marie Brennan, Jane Austen, Victor Hugo. . . I'm also a Christian who reads a lot of Christian non-fiction, apologetics, etc., though that doesn't really have a bearing on critiquing partnership stuff.

I love Disney movies and dramas, and I can't stand most comedies out lately - if you're a big Will Farrell fan, chances are we don't share a similar sense of humor. Not that I'm a stick in the mud - I prefer irony and subtle humor to slapstick. I love show tunes and classical music, have been heavily involved in theatre (and opera), and on the flip side, my favorite band is Metallica.

I'm young and energetic, have a BA in writing, have been married almost 4 years, live near Philadelphia, and am definitely a detail person, so if you're good at seeing the forest, I need you!

Email me at jessica @ jessicatudor . com if we might get along. :)

To date, I've drafted 5 novels, revising and submitting the last one. I need someone who can help me learn to revise and take my work to the next level, to dig deeper. I'm a fantastic line-editor and am the company's copy-editor in my day job, by the way.

Beta Reader Writer Matchup
Hi everyone. I am a paranormal reading junkie. I read really fast about 500 pages / day if left on my own devices. I am a reviewer now so I have slowed down to be able to retain more and would absofrickenlutely love to be a beta reader for someone(s)!! Right now I am reading Laurell K Hamilton's Skin Trade, JR Ward's Lover Avenged, and Lora Leigh's Fyre Brand right now but just finished the first three Yasmine Galenorn books. I love all types of para's, erotica, romance, historical's, urban fantasy... just about anything. I do not mind the menage/gay books so hardcore erotica is OK too as I have had to review a bunch of them and the do not ususaly offend.
If anyone writes about hockey or other sports I would be interested in that as well.
My fave authors are Lora Leigh, LK Hamilton, Shiloh Walker, Jeri Smith-Ready, Rachel Vincent, Colleen Gleason and ooooh I could go on forever. I have over 1300 books in the house and over 500 on the wall above my bed.
Right now I am not working very much because of 2 back to back accidents I had late last year. I was in a car accident where I smashed into a gas meter and a tree then a few weeks after that I had a skid of canned goods partially fall on me at work. So I am looking to find ways to get my book fix in while not using a lot of out of pocket monies.
I do have my own little WIP but it may never see the light of day. Writing and reading are my little escapes, as a Mother of 4 boys it is testosterone city here, and the written word whether my own or someone with talent is a daily fix I need like a drug.
Please let me know if my little blurb tickles your fancy and would like to give me a try as a beta reader. It would make my day!!! You can twitter me as hockeyvampiress or email me at the same dot hotmail dot com
Thanks Shell better known as The Hockeyvampiress

Reader
Hi. I'm Bri. I'm a very avid reader. When I was younger I thought I wanted to be a writer, so I did focus on it a bit in school, but it turns out I don't actually enjoy being on that end of the pen. :) I read a ton of urban fantasy, sco-fi, classic fantasy, mystery and a little horror. Not much though. I read Caitlin Kiernan and she scared the bejeezus out of me with the spider thing... and I started paying more attention to the blurbs on the backs of the books I buy.

I'm reading about 15 different on-going series (just for a hobby) but if I had to choose just a few favorite authors (leaving Devon out since it's kind of obvious I like her as I'm following her LJ) I'd have to say Jim Butcher, Kim Harrison, Jacqueline Carey, Janet Evanovich, Charlaine Harris, and Jodi Picoult. I know six more than a few, but I really wanted to list about 20 people.

For my favorite movies, I like silly comedies like Saved! and Mean Girls, or movies that make me cry like Man on Fire and Seven Pounds. And I loved Star Trek. My husband and I are going as Spock and Uhura for NorWesCon next year. :)

If you are interested in having me read for you my email is agaggleofgoossens@yahoo.com
